And I remember it was like, I remember they had to take her to the hospital and then, and um, you know, she was obviously already gone. You get up 11 times. And usually if you follow them with discipline, uh, you know, usually lead to good outcomes. Mike Sarraille: I let him get in my head and it caused me to spiral down. It was, it was chaos and it was nuts. And I had, you know, and I, I, I didn't have a lot of resources. Yeah. I mean, I, I walk away from that and it's like, you hope you, you're able to retain a, a, a little bit of that empathy, you know? I think that our, as, as human beings, we need purpose. Um, and when you, and then you, and then you put Covid on top of it and you're trapped in the house and you have a lot of time to think and introspection and that, and, and this, this album is sort of a, uh, it's kind of a reflection on like, just being a human being during this insane time in history, you know? That there's, there's music is definitely, it Marks time in our lives. According to Rzeznik, before penning down the song "Iris", he was on the verge of leaving the band because he had been writing songs for the past nine years and it had been a low. Who Is John Rzeznik? I don't think you're mutually exclusive in, in, in my opinion. I think if my father was able to talk about his experiences, because, you know, he lost his father when he was very, very young. John Rzeznik: Yeah. Probably ending my first marriage. John Rzeznik: And it became a metaphor in my life to, to keep going, you know? We've got your six. And I definitely put that in the bucket of moral courage. The song was released by Rzeznik as a solo track. Um, well, it was, I, I was, um, when that happened with my mom and I actually was holding her in my arms when she passed. But they just came home. I, I don't want, I don't wanna get a phone call after this. And they bought him a cow and that, and then he became a dairy farmer and his purpose was restored. It's like public speaking. [9], Rzeznik's father died at the age of 53 on February 2, 1981, from a diabetic coma when Rzeznik was 15 years old. Um, I think that covid and, and all the civil unrest and, and, and the struggles for, you know, whatever we're struggling towards, where we're, what are we creeping towards? And, and, um, and I hope that my daughter respects me. It's very, very small and a lot of people would consider it trivial. Yeah. John Rzeznik: That, that, that was Well, what was, I mean, that was, that's the way that generation was though. What happens when 2000 people like me? You know, I, I, I couldn't give you a good answer and I could say the way you just framed it, there's probably both good and bad with that. Okay. John Rzeznik: Wow. But there, there has to be an element of that greatest generation that, that grit that we instill back into our society. He briefly attended Buffalo State College, dropping out after his first year. And I think, I think, and that's why I always played in bands like playing music. John Rzeznik: I have no regrets in my life. Forget it, I dont need that shit. Mike Sarraille: Rzeznik noted in a 2003 interview that "No matter what guitar I have, it seems that anything with strings makes music to my ears. Yeah. Mike Sarraille: Mike Sarraille: That hasnt changed about me, but if you mention, Gee, wouldnt it be nice if everyone could go and see a doctor? suddenly youre branded a socialist whos ruining the country.
